Furaha Rising Foundation is a Canadian non-profit organization working alongside communities in Arusha, Tanzania to create meaningful and lasting opportunities for women, children, and families.

Furaha Rising Foundation was founded on the belief that lasting change comes from investing in people and creating opportunities that foster independence, dignity, and growth. We are committed to long-term, locally driven solutions that build on the strengths, knowledge, and potential already within communities.

Sydney Hughson
Founder & President
Sydney's connection to Tanzania began in 2024 while volunteering in Arusha, where she spent several weeks working alongside women in a women’s empowerment program and supporting children in a local daycare. During this time, she built meaningful relationships within the community and saw firsthand some of the barriers women faced in accessing education, developing practical skills, and pursuing opportunities for sustainable income.
What began as a volunteer experience grew into a commitment to continue working alongside the community beyond her time in Tanzania. Inspired by the women and families she came to know, Sydney founded Furaha Rising Foundation in 2025 with a vision of creating lasting opportunities rooted in education, empowerment, dignity, and sustainable growth.
Today, Sydney works closely with the team in Tanzania to continue building opportunities for women, children, and families—strengthening pathways to education, independence, and a future shaped by their own potential.

We envision communities where women are empowered to pursue their potential, children have access to quality early learning, and families are equipped with the opportunities and resources to build brighter futures for generations to come.
Our Mission
Furaha Rising Foundation exists to empower women, nurture children, and strengthen communities in Tanzania through sustainable education, vocational training, and community development initiatives that create lasting opportunities.
Our Programs
Seeds of Hope
Women’s Empowerment Program
Seeds of Hope is a women’s empowerment initiative developed by Furaha Rising Foundation to support women in Arusha, Tanzania. The program provides practical skills training, education, and personal development opportunities to help women build confidence and create sustainable sources of income.

Many women in the community face barriers such as limited access to education, unemployment, and lack of opportunities to develop vocational skills. Seeds of Hope seeks to address these challenges by providing a supportive learning environment where women can develop practical abilities, build financial knowledge, and strengthen their confidence.
Little Seeds
Childcare Support
To support mothers who may otherwise be unable to participate, the program will also include Little Seeds Childcare, a small childcare space for participants’ children during program sessions.

Together, these initiatives support both women and their families, helping create pathways toward economic independence and stronger communities.
